Pemaquid Point Light (Pemaquid Point, Maine)
This light is located at Pemaquid Point on the western side of Muscongus Bay in Maine. It was originally built in 1827 and commissioned by John Quincy Adams. The light was subsequently rebuilt in 1857.
The tower is 38 feet tall and stands on a high rock formation placing the light at almost 80 feet above sea level. The light shines through a fourth-order Fresnel lens which, on a clear night, can be seen at a distance of 15 miles. The light was automated in 1934.
The town of Bristol, ME operates the Fisherman's Museum which is located in the keeper's house. The museum displays interesting artifacts of Maine lighthouses and the fishing/lobster industry. It includes a fourth order Fresnel lens like the one in the lighthouse.
To get to the lighthouse from Damariscotta turn off of US Route 1 onto ME 129/130, then follow ME 130 south for 16 miles to the end. The lighthouse is located at the end of the ME 130.
